ACH processing: A key tool for business

ACH processing: A key tool for business

Merchant processing services give a business the ability to provide what is known as ACH processing. This system gives businesses the capability to automatically process payments. It has added benefits of cutting administrative costs, reducing errors, making the business more streamlined and more appealing to customers. It doesn’t matter whether the business is wholesale, retail, mail order, online or is service-industry based, ACH processing can efficiently handle all the payment processing, as well as check verification needs.

ACH processing system is facilitated by the Automated Clearing house (ACH). The ACH processing system allows businesses to collect payments automatically. It can be used for a variety of purposes including payroll, i.e. the company can pay its employees directly. Customers are able to pay for goods and services using the credit card payment processing option, which is provided using ACH processing. It makes it simple for businesses to pay their suppliers too. It also provides check verification to improve security without the business having to handle all the paperwork itself, hence cutting staff tasks. The service that ACH processing provides increases business efficiency. For customers it makes the business much more user-friendly; credit card processing is something most customers now take for granted, and if a business does not offer it, then it is a clear disincentive on the part of the customer not to buy from that business.

Obviously there is some cost involved for a business to be part of the ACH processing system, but surprisingly it is not a huge one. After an initial set-up cost the payment structure is based on a small fee per transaction, usually an only a few cents. Overall ACH processing should be a cost saver because of the additional customers who are attracted, in addition of course to the increased efficiency which should accrue to the business.

There are some things that ACH processing is not ideal for; money transferred cannot be withdrawn immediately. It is not the same as bank transfer; for immediate and speedy access to funds it is advisable to use a wire transfer.

The modern market place expects instant gratification and customers now have much higher expectations of businesses. No business can really afford to be without the merchant processing capability which ACH processing provides. Credit card processing is no longer the preserve of big companies, but can be offered by small business too. Applying to join the ACH processing system is actually very straightforward.
